Reprising the twin-turbocharged V8 configuration in a Ferrari for the first time since the F40 (OK, OK, along with the California T), the 488 represented a significant shift in philosophy for Ferrari’s long line of mid-engined six and eight cylinder cars that originated with the 206 Dino. Of this new generation of twin-turbocharged V8 Ferraris, the Pista is undoubtedly the pick of the bunch for the enthusiastic driver, combining reduced weight, a keener chassis, more extraverted aesthetics, and significant engine upgrades. Ferrari reported that 50% of the engine parts in the Pista are different from the standard 488’s engine, including lighter crankshaft and flywheel, titanium connecting rods, more aggressive camshafts, and inconel exhaust manifolds. The engine alone weighs 40 pounds less than the standard car’s and the total weight difference between the two cars is 176 pounds, plus another 22 pounds for the optional carbon fiber wheels.
This particular car is equipped with those carbon fiber wheels, and a great many other options, totaling approximately $135,000, giving the car an original MSRP of $485,766. This includes extensive carbon fiber trim both inside the car and out. Originally supplied by Ferrari of San Francisco in October 2019, the car has had two prior California owners and has been consistently dealer maintained, having covered just 4,000 miles from new. Included in the sale are service invoices, factory car cover and battery tender, owners manual pack, window sticker, and tools.
